Teacher’s Reflection
The Powerful Teacher
“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations it is my response that decides whether a crisi will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.”
Haim Ginott
If I were to begin my college course again, I would still choose to get into the same profession, Even if a lot of people see this job as burdensome, even if I myself can attest that this job does not pay a lot, I still see teaching as a fulfilling ,enjoyable and a noble profession.
I have been in this profession for more than ten years now and until today, the concern for the society and the enthusiasm in nurturing the hearts and minds of the students have always been my motivation and I guess that’s one of the beauty of teaching profession.
Every school year brings a new and different experience, I find inspiration from my students whenever I see them participate actively in my class, getting involved in different group activities I prepared, or even just listening attentively to a class lecture, or exerting effort to submit a nice project. What motivates me to prepare lessons for the next day is the fun and excitement as we go along the lesson. I take time to prepare my questions and activities, I choose those that will capture their interest and imagination so that they can talk a lot about the topic. At times I decide on activities that will touch their lives and personal experience so that they will start sharing about themselves. At the end of every day, though tired, Im thankful and felt so blessed for God led me to a profession that helps me achieve my life’s purpose, to be of service of today’s youth who will eventually become responsible adult citizens of this society, and with that ,I can conclude that teaching really is one if not the noblest profession ever.
I believe that a teacher affects eternity, that I will never know how and until when my influence on each one of my student will last. I always make it a rule to myself to begin my day with prayers so that my work will not just end on the transmission of data and information but will involve imparting a most precious commodity, intangible yet affecting the very core of one’s being, the forming and training of soul in person whose minds and hearts have to conform to everlasting truth and undying love.
